Today’s reading: Daniel 7:1-9:27
My selection: Daniel 9:20-23
20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the Lord my God for the holy hill of my God, 21 while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding. 23 At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word and understand the vision.
My reflections: Daniel’s vision from the Lord was not completely clear to him. What was clear to him was his sin, the sin of his people Israel, and the need for confession. God sent him Gabriel to convey reassurance of God’s love and to clarify what the vision meant.
My challenge: When God’s people meet the Lord, they are always overwhelmed by His holiness and their own sinfulness. A measure of your growth in the knowledge of God is the level of your confession of sin (I John 1). Do your prayers include a serious time of confession of sin? Here again Daniel models the kind of prayer that is offered by those who know God best. In the New Testament, we have even more assurance of forgiveness than Daniel. Take time to confess your sin.
