Daily Offerings: then and now

Today’s reading: Numbers 27:1-29:40
My selection: Numbers 28:1-2
28 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Command the people of Israel and say to them, ‘My offering, my food for my food offerings, my pleasing aroma, you shall be careful to offer to me at its appointed time.’
My reflections: The Lord gave Moses very specific instructions for daily, weekly and annual sacrifices, all of which are a foreshadowing of the ultimate, once-for-all offering of our great High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christians are called to be no less devoted to daily worship than our Old Testament brothers and sisters. In his Epistle to the Romans, Paul, after carefully laying out the gospel and the basis for our standing with God by grace through faith, gives this call to the New Testament version of sacrifice.
Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
By the mercies of God, we are justified before Him. We are able to present ourselves as a holy and acceptable offering to God because, by grace through faith, Christ has purified us. It is a privilege and a responsibility to offer ourselves daily to Him as a living sacrifice.
My challenge: Does your daily devotional time include a presentation of yourself to God as a living sacrifice? Keep in mind that your sacrifice of yourself is holy and acceptable through Christ. Your offering pleases God.
