Danger and Delight

Writer's picture: jacarroll71jacarroll71

Today’s reading: Psalm 16:1-19:14

My selection: Psalm 16:1-3

1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

2      I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;

          I have no good apart from you.”

3      As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,

          in whom is all my delight.

My reflections: There is a cliché going around currently, “It’s all good.” It sounds very cheery and optimistic but doesn’t it run counter to reality and Scripture?

David takes refuge in the Lord because all is not good. There are evil forces out there. They present danger to all who seek only the true and living God. Humanity is divided. There are the saints (vs. 3) and there are those who run after another god (vs. 4).

There is danger of direct opposition from those who are not saints. There is danger of being shaken in one’s own resolve to follow after the Lord. David steels himself by holding the Lord always before Him, by keeping the Lord as his only source of good, and by reflecting on the pleasures to come in His presence.

My challenge: Do not be shaken. Take refuge in the Lord. Be built up by the fellowship of the saints. In the face of danger, delight in Him.

Tomorrow’s reading: Psalm 20:1-25:22
