Today’s reading: Jeremiah 23:33-26:24
My selection: Jeremiah 26:14-16
14 But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do with me as seems good and right to you. 15 Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”
16 Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”
My reflections: How ironic that the religious leaders opposed the word of God from Jeremiah while the public officials and general population feared bringing the judgment of God on themselves.
It’s not so different today. Too often the church tries to be cool and edgy and popular while ignoring the pending judgment of God. But does anyone fear God’s judgment amongst our civic leaders?
My challenge: Hear the faithful preachers of God’s word who care not for political correctness or personal popularity. If you know a Jeremiah, encourage him today.
