Flourishing in a Difficult Ministry

Writer's picture: jacarroll71jacarroll71

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 12:1-15:21

My selection: Jeremiah 15:16

16 Your words were found, and I ate them,

and your words became to me a joy

and the delight of my heart,

for I am called by your name,

O Lord, God of hosts.

My reflections: Jeremiah’s ministry was a most difficult one. His message was not encouraging, but one of impending judgment. His hearers were not only unreceptive but were hostile and sometimes violent towards him.

But he understood he was the Lord’s, called by the name of the God of Israel. His identity was lost in his God. For that reason, he took delight in the Word of God. It became a joy and delight to him in the midst of oppression. He did not merely survive, but flourished, in the hardest of circumstances.

My challenge: In the midst of the trials of your calling, do you ingest God’s word (spiritually speaking)? Do you find delight in it? Is it the joy of your heart? Is your identity wrapped up in Him?

Pray that you may answer “yes” to these questions. Pray that you may flourish in a difficult place.

Tomorrow’s reading: Jeremiah 16:1-19:15
