God’s Presence

Writer's picture: jacarroll71jacarroll71

Today’s reading: Psalm 145:1-Proverbs 1:7

My selection: Psalm 145:18

The Lord is near to all who call on him,

to all who call on him in truth.

My reflections: What a comforting promise! There are no restrictions as to when we may call, where we may call, or why we may call. We may call night or day. We may call in sickness or health. We may call whether devastated by grief or overflowing with joy. We may call at church, at home, at work, or in travel.

There is one qualification given: we must call in truth. We may not call with insincerity (James 1:5-8). We may not call with doubt. But when we call in truth we have His promise to be near to us. It does not say all our problems will instantly disappear. It does say He will be near.

My challenge: In the midst of great suffering, overwhelming grief, an uncertain future or perplexing decisions is His presence enough? Can you endure, knowing He is with you? James gave a similar promise in his epistle (4:8a): Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Call to Him. Draw near to Him. Know His presence.

Tomorrow’s reading: Proverbs 1:8-3:35
