Godly Leaders and Biblical Churches

Today’s reading: 1 Chronicles 26:20-29:30

My selection: I Chronicles 29:14-16

“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding.  O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own.

My reflections: In a leader, godliness is expressed in humility. David, though king, saw God as the true king and rightful owner and source of all things. Furthermore, David, as a godly leader, led his people in worship. This was a golden age in Israel because a godly king led the nation to an orderly and more consistent worship of God according to His law.

Today in the USA, we do not have a theocracy such as existed in Israel. We allow for unbelief and differing beliefs in regard to theology. It is not illegal to be an atheist, agnostic, or polytheist. Christianity had a big influence in the founding of our country and has had a big influence down through history. Christians must seek to continue to unapologetically influence for good the public policy of our nation lest we completely lose our moral and ethical compass. The protection of human life and the sanctity of marriage as established by God between one man and one woman are significant. But the encroaching of the culture of death and the normalization of homosexuality could not occur without the acquiescence of a large part of the so-called Christian church.

My challenge: We need godly leaders in politics but they will be greatly limited if there is not Biblical Christianity in our churches. Pray for revival in our churches. Godly churches will impact our culture and our political leaders.

Tomorrow’s reading: 2 Chronicles 1:1- 5:1
