Today’s reading: Jeremiah 32:1-34:7
My selection: Jeremiah 33:2-3
2 “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it— the Lord is his name: 3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
My reflections: Jeremiah, locked up as a troublemaker in a city under siege, received revelations from God, the Creator and Sustainer of the earth, as to what He would do. God delighted to reassure His prophet who was suffering for His sake in the midst of a “hopeless” situation. What God showed him was astounding.
God was going to send a “righteous branch” from the line of David who would rule justly and establish Judah and Jerusalem. We, Christians, take this to refer to Jesus Christ whose kingdom has already come and begun. It will be fully established at His return.
My challenge: Like Jeremiah, we live in an in-between time with suffering now but a great hopeful future in which the Son of God, Jesus Christ, will rule perfectly. Be hopeful in His promises. Look to Him and His Word which tells us great and hidden things we would never have known.
