Today’s reading: Proverbs 7:1-9:18
My selection: Proverbs 8:34-36
34 Blessed is the one who listens to me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.
35 For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,
36 but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death.
My reflections: Wisdom speaks urging the simple to come to her rather than to be seduced by folly. Wisdom promises life and favor from the Lord and warns of injury and death on the alternate path.
All this is plain and easy to understand. Yet the daily discipline of seeking wisdom does not come naturally. It requires turning away from the sirens that beckon us to folly in our culture and in our own hearts.
My challenge: Do not expect to naturally and automatically choose the path of wisdom. It is to be found in regular daily prayer and Bible study which cultivates a fear of God and hatred for evil. [8:13]
Make it a priority to seek wisdom daily. Slow down. Take time. Listen. Watch. Wait. You will be blessed. Remember in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).
