Today’s reading: 1 Chronicles 17:1-20:8
My selection: I Chronicles 17:14-15
14 but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.’” 15 In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.
My reflections: God promised to establish the throne of David’s son forever. This was just another in an unfolding list of promises of redemption and grace that began at the fall with Genesis 3:15. A definitive blow would be dealt to the serpent by the seed (offspring) of the woman. Then Abraham was called and promised land, descendants, and blessing. Through him all the families of the earth would be blessed. Then through Moses, God established the nation of Israel with the law and the priesthood, all of which was a shadow of what would come through the Messiah. Now David is promised to have the Eternal King come through his lineage.
All of the Bible ties together with the theme of the Redeemer and the redemption of God’s elect people.
My challenge: Praise God for His wisdom in bringing to pass His eternal purposes for His glory and our good.
