Today’s reading: Ezekiel 40:38-43:27
My selection: Ezekiel 43:4-5
4 As the glory of the Lord entered the temple by the gate facing east, 5 the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple.
My reflections: Ezekiel hears and sees the glory of the Lord coming back into the temple. It is like the sound of many waters. Great light reflects off the earth as He comes. Ezekiel must have been dazzled by the sight and deafened by the sound that impacted his eyes and ears. He seems to have fallen on his face before the Lord, but the Spirit lifted him up and brought him into the inner court.
Here we see both the glory of God and the grace of God. God’s glory is overwhelming to the senses. Even the faithful prophet sees his need to bow before this glorious Being. The Lord shows His mercy to Ezekiel. He brings His prophet into His presence. God draws Ezekiel to Himself.
My challenge: If thinking accurately, the believer in the God of the Bible holds in tension the Lord’s glory and grace. The glory of God makes us fear and worship Him as we should. The grace of God makes us trust and rest in Him as we should.
Your understanding of His grace should never eclipse His glory. His glory should never eclipse His grace. Call Him “Father” for He accepts you, although He is far above you. Because He is glorious and gracious, He is both able and willing to provide for you, guide you, and keep you all the days of your life until He calls you into His presence.
