Today’s reading: John 20:24-Acts 2:13
My selection: Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
My reflections: Jesus’ disciples were focused on the restoration of the kingdom to Israel (1:7). The Lord quickly redirected their attention away from the kingdom of Israel to the Kingdom of God which has global scope and supernatural power.
The disciples were to be about witnessing for and to Christ, the One who lived, died, and rose again for the salvation of the world. They were to do it in the power of the Holy Spirit. They were to carry this out on a worldwide basis. So are we.
There is a what, where, and how to this Great Commission: witness to Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit to all the world.
My challenge: What is your focus as a believer in Christ? Is it mere local issues and passing concerns? Christ has sent us to the ends of the earth with a message of eternal importance. Let your focus be as broad and deep as His, but don’t let your contribution be diluted by the failure to lift up the cross where you are. Recognize your need for the power of His Holy Spirit. Depend on Him. Be ready to move out to wherever He may call you: Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, or the ends of the earth.
