Today’s reading: Isaiah 51:1-56:8
My selection: Isaiah 53:10-11
10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for sin,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
My reflections: Christians understand this to be a clear reference to Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah of Israel. It speaks of the fulfilling of His work of atonement and salvation for His people.
1. He bore the iniquity of His people. Our sin was imputed, or charged, to Him. He endured our just punishment which brought anguish to His soul.
2. He made many to be accounted righteous. His righteousness is imputed, or credited, to His people. See 1 Corinthians 1: 30.
3. He was satisfied with what He accomplished through the anguish of His soul on the cross.
My challenge: Are you one of His offspring? By natural birth you are of Satan’s offspring. Only by new birth can you see the Kingdom of God and be among His offspring (John 3: 3). Believe. Repent. Rejoice. Be amazed.
Tomorrow’s reading: Isaiah 56:9-60:22
