Today’s reading: Mark 4:21-6:29
My selection: Mark 4:26-29
26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.
My reflections: The growth of the kingdom of God is mysterious. Like the example of the planter, there is a human component: seed is scattered and harvesting is done. There is a time factor: it’s a process, no instant results. There is a hidden aspect: the seed grows unseen. There is a termination component: the results are obvious.
For over 2000 years, the kingdom of God has been growing in the world. It’s mark is unmistakable. Persecution only makes it stronger. In fact, it thrives in adversity and languishes in acceptability.
My challenge: Do not lose hope when you see apparent delay to the kingdom. It is the threshold of a new growth season. Keep sowing, watering, praying, waiting, and trusting.
