Who has Peace and Rest in Death?

Today’s reading: Isaiah 56:9-60:22

My selection: Isaiah 57:1-2

The righteous man perishes, and no one lays it to heart;

devout men are taken away,

while no one understands.

For the righteous man is taken away from calamity;

2 he enters into peace;

they rest in their beds

who walk in their uprightness.

My reflections: Here is reassurance that the life to come is one of peace for the righteous man or woman. His death may be ignored or misunderstood to be a tragedy, but for the one who is counted righteous (Isaiah 53:11) he is delivered from calamity, enters into peace, and rests on his bed.

My challenge: Be saddened by death of a loved one, but, at the same time, be comforted when you have every reason to believe that the deceased is counted righteous in Christ.  Do not mourn for the one who has entered into peace and rest.  You too, if you believe in Him, will one day be welcomed into the peace and rest of God.

Tomorrow’s reading: Isaiah 61:1-65:25
