Why Jesus Came

Today’s reading:

My Selection:

And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Mark 2:17

Here we have one of those pithy, oft-quoted, sayings of Jesus.  It highlights the need to recognize our need of Him.  Everyone is a sinner but not everyone admits it.  Spiritual blindness renders one unable to see his failings.  Pride makes one unwilling to face them.

The Good News

Jesus did not come to award prizes to self-righteous hypocrites.  He came to call sinners.  He came to call them to repentance and to Himself (Luke 5:32).  Have you heard His call?  Have you come to Him?  If you think you are too sinful to be saved or too righteous to need saving, pray that God would give you a true understanding of your need for Christ.  Pray that you may grasp deeply why Jesus came.  No one is beyond His power to save.  No one is beyond the need for His salvation.  Not even you.  That’s the good news.
