Today’s reading: Jeremiah 34:8-37:21
My selection: Jeremiah 37:3
3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “Please pray for us to the Lord our God.”
My reflections: King Zedekiah did not listen to Jeremiah, but he did attempt to use Jeremiah. He asked for prayer. Jeremiah went to the Lord and got this message for the king: “the army of the Chaldeans will withdraw but they will return and burn Jerusalem.” Jeremiah was fearless in confronting Zedekiah, and Zedekiah protected Jeremiah from some of the possible consequences of his unpopular message.
God will not be used by anyone. Zedekiah thought he could get God’s help without a commitment to obedience on his part. Ultimately, Jeremiah’s words were proven true.
My challenge: Be faithful to the Lord in the face of strong opposition. Declare His truth though it cost you pain and suffering.
